Market - August 17th

This week we will be featuring the plum tomatoes we are growing for the URI Tomato Trial.

Left to Right:  Granadero, Paisano, Golden Rave & Juliet

GranaderoBright red, 4-5 oz. tomatoes with very good flavor.  These thick-walled fruit are good for fresh tomato sauces, salsas, and salads.

Paisano:  Thick-walled, 4-5 oz. fruits in the true San Marzano shape. Good flavor and high solids for sauce or canning.

Golden Rave:  Small, 2 oz fruits. Full, well-balanced, sweet flavor for fresh eating or cooking.

JulietDeep red, shiny fruits weighing 1 1/2-2 oz..  Delicious, rich tomato flavor for salads, great salsa, and fresh pasta sauce.

In addition we will be introducing a new variety of onion this weekend, the Rossa Lunga di Tropea Onion.  It is an Italian heirloom onion that has an elongated shape similar to a torpedo.  They are thin-skinned glossy maroon bulbs with lighter interiors that slice easily into even rings.  The flavor is sweet, mild and delicious.
